Siemens to launch African Green City Index
SIEMENS is a global powerhouse in electronics and electrical engineering, operating in the Industry, Energy and Healthcare sectors. Which is the greenest city in Africa? A study being conducted by Siemens in cooperation with the Economist Intelligence Unit will provide the answer. Over the coming months, approximately 16 leading African cities shall be ranked and compared in terms of their environmental sustainability. The cities will be assessed in eight environmental categories, including energy supply and CO2 emissions, transport, water, sanitation, and green governance. Publication of the study is planned for the beginning of 2011.

The view over Alexandria was never better than on 26 July 2010 when, to jointly celebrate the city being chosen as the Capital of Arab Tourism 2010 and National Day, the Egyptian Sport Parachuting and Aeronautic Federation flew over Alexandria holding a Four Seasons Hotel Alexandria at San Stefano flag – as a landmark tourism symbol within the city. The spectacle saw twelve skydivers jump from 10,000 feet high before landing in front of an audience comprising the media, members of the Egyptian Tourism Authority and local Alexandrians – with three skydivers descending with the flags of Alexandria, the Egyptian Authority of Tourism and Four Seasons Hotel Alexandria.

“Working with food is in my genes,” says Fabrice Meynet, the new Executive Pastry Chef at Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at The First Residence. “I have the perfect mixture of DNA to be a pastry chef.” For a Frenchman hailing from a large, foodfocused family in Bellevaux in the Mont Blanc area near Italy and Switzerland, this is no empty boast. With a great-grandmother who was a cook in Italy, and a paternal grandmother who cooked regular weekend feasts for the Meynet clan, his future career path was set from an early age. “I would spend all of my time with my grandmother in her kitchen, making cakes with her,” he says. “I would also spend 2 months there during the summer vacation from the time I turned 5.” Growing up on a working farm also encouraged his strong passion for food and taught him the importance of using topquality produce in cookery.

Cisco today announced that Living In ( www.livingin.com) is the winner of the
Egyptian Cisco Small is BIG Contest. The contest, launched in early 2010,
required entrants to give an overview of how their businesses used technology.
It was targeted at small and medium businesses (SMB’s) throughout Egypt and was
the first for Cisco in the region. Living In, which specialises in design,
construction and furniture, won a complete Cisco networking transformation.
Cisco’s experts and Cisco partner BMB assessed the winning company’s needs and

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts-Africa and Habitat for Humanity Egypt join activities again to build three more houses, in Al Kom Al Akhdar village in Al Minya Governorate in Upper Egypt.
Al Minya governorate is located approximately 245 km (152 miles) south of Cairo on the western bank of the Nile River and it has a total population of 221,547. On July 9, 2010 Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts Africa invited representatives from the Egyptian press and media to participate in house-build activities in Al Kom Al Akhdar Village with its employees from: El Gouna, Taba, Pyramids, Media City, El Sokhna and the Africa Area Office, in addition to a representative from Egypt Air. The team worked in 3 different houses, and all have enjoyed the various activities including plastering of walls, sifting sand, mixing and carrying cement and painting, and after finishing, the team have toured the village where they have seen the other houses which were build within the agreement between the two organization, including the environmental low cost house.
