When I met her I felt that she is just a little girl. She is a beautiful,
active and romantic character, who lives in the fairy tale stories. Maria
impressed me with her spontaneous and natural way, and her trust in GOD. Many
have criticized her art, but this has not stopped or discouraged her. This has
increased her determination to excel in her career. We have talked about
everything in life and this interview will show Maria’s personality and
thoughts…
Your First appearance was in “Elaab” video clip, and then you
disappeared and came back what were the reasons?
My disappearance
was because of the war in Lebanon, and I could not stay in the country and could
not pursue my career.
What was your reaction about the flow of criticism you got since
your beginnings?
If there is criticism that means my work
attracts peoples’ attention. The audience and critics differ in their tastes;
therefore some like me and some criticize me; I respect and hear all criticism
and take what I would benefit from. Sometimes criticism benefits the artist
since it serves as a guide for him/her. Anyways, I only do what I think is best
for me.
What is the secret behind your partnership with Gad
Showairy?
I like Gad as a director, he is very talented and I
respect his ideas and taste. He has a funky style and at the end I present
musical dance shows and he is very talented in this area. He knows how to
introduce the artist to the public in a very rich and chic image. Above all, we
are very close friends.
Does this mean that you will not cooperate with another
director?
Why should I? I am comfortable with Gad and I find myself
when I work with him.
You seem to stand out among the various female show-singers, what
is your secret?
I think it is the love I get from my fans. I think
that I opened the door to those who want to present musical dance shows, but in
the end, the audience and fans choose their favorite. I am natural and I think I
don’t show off like others; therefore people feel that I am close to their
hearts because I am spontaneous and simple.
Talk to us about your latest video clip “Baheb EL Mas” (I love
diamonds)….
Diamonds are girls’ best friends and I am one of them
because Diamonds never lose its value and glamour. Moreover, Diamonds are the
symbol of purity and transparency. The idea was taken from a song Marline Monroe
performed in 1953. Then Madonna reproduced a similar show about the diamonds, as
an appreciation for Marline Monroe, in 1985. Here, we did the same thing, and I
wanted to sing for the diamonds in my own style. I did not mean to imitate
Marline Monroe or Madonna; I only did this in the memory of Marline Monroe and
as tribute to her art that we, as Arabs always enjoyed.
Do you like to change your look often, or do you prefer to have
your own unique style, that people know you for?
I like to have my
special and unique style, and I like girls to imitate my style. How would they
imitate me if I change my style often?
Anyways, any artist who has
self-confidence won’t change their appearance frequently.
How do you categorize yourself as an artist?
I know my
limits, I am not a singer; I am an artist, not more
You have Armenian roots, how did it influence
you?
Armenians have a rich civilization and history; they are kind,
intelligent, persistent, and patient as a result of all the wars they
endured. We are always determined to start from scratch. As for the arts,
my father was Armenian, and was a very famous singer and I was influenced by him
and his music.
Many singers and artists have introduced sexy video clips and then
they went in another style and road, their explanation was “it was just a
phase”. Do you agree with them?
I present elegant and sexy video
clips, I am a “Barbie Coquette”. I don’t intend to present repulsive shows and
clips. I think that the short skirt is not a way to seduce people, but it is
about how you act in the clip.
Who is your role model?
I appreciate very much the late
Soad Hosny. My mother always liked her and she dreamt of having a girl just like
her, she used to watch her movies all the time and this has influenced me a lot
personally and professionally. I dream to play roles like Soad Hosny’s roles in
the cinema, as she was professional in acting, singing and dancing. And she has
a sold base of fans and lovers. I also like Sherihan, as she was one of the most
important stars in musical dance shows.
Does this mean that you dream to enter the cinema?
Yes,
I am specifically dreaming of doing roles just like the old black and white
movies, since I am much influenced by this phase in everything, in their movies,
romantic love stories. The ideas of the movies were simple and had many musical
dance shows. I had many cinematic offers, but I could not find the perfect role
that suits me just the way I am. I don’t want to change my dialect or the way I
act. I also dream of doing the FAWAZEER
What about your personal dreams?
I dream of success,
fame, love of people and to meet a person who would love and respect me in
a fairy tale love story. The most important thing is that he won’t ever cheat on
me. I love the family life and I would be a great mother and wife.
Who is your favorite singer among your
generation?
Nancy Agram is the best.
Is it true that you have insured your body?
Yes, since
I first appeared in 2002, when I was chosen as the Bikini Beauty Queen. I
insured my body for 5 million dollars.

How do you manage to keep your figure?
Every day, I go
to the gym for 3 hours, and this takes away the negative energy and keeps me fit
and sporty
What are your hobbies?Sh So you like people to
talk about your art or your beauty?
The artist is like a portrait,
it should
be complete, if the frame is not beautiful then this will affect the whole
picture, therefore people should like me artistically and
personally.opping……….
Are there any problems between you and any of your
colleagues?
I have no problem with others, if anyone has a problem
with me, I would gladly hear it. In Europe, you find superstars going out
together and are close to each other, but here in the Middle East there is a lot
of jealousy between them. At the end of the day every singer and artist has got
her/his own style and beauty and presents her/his art in a different way.
What are your future plans?
I am preparing for the new
album and for shooting the clip of “Allah Rad” written by Hany
