Cairo Hotel’s Culinary Team Displays Perfection at ITB Berlin Created opening gala dinner for VIP guests of leading travel trade show
Meals in Egypt are often a community affair, the culinary team at the Cairo Marriott Hotel & Omar Khayyam Casino, among safe hotels in Cairo, created an extravagant dinner for 5,000 attendees at ITB Berlin, “the world’s leading travel trade show.” As the official partner country of ITB 2012, Egypt is once again making a name for itself in the world of tourist travel, and this Cairo hotels was proud to play a role. The Egyptian Tourist Authority handpicked the culinary team at the Cairo Marriott Hotel & Omar Khayyam Casino to prepare the opening gala dinner on March 6th. The team of 10 chefs was selected from this hotel’s restaurants in Cairo and included the hotel’s culinary director, Chef Badawy Abdel Hamid. Team members worked for 4 consecutive days to prepare the magnificent spread, which included 13 buffets of appetizers, desserts, cold and hot dishes and much more enough to feed the 5000 attendees of the event. If success is measured by empty plates, the dinner was a hit, as not a single item of food remained, and the event received only positive comments at the end of the evening. If you didn’t attend the ITB Berlin gala, you can still sample the culinary skills of this hotel’s chefs. With 15 onsite dining options, guests and visitors of the Cairo Marriott Hotel & Omar Khayyam Casino can enjoy everything from fine northern Italian cuisine at Ristorante Tuscany and fresh sushi at Torii to southern American cooking at Roy’s Country Kitchen and steaks and crafted cocktails at JW’s Steakhouse.

Semiramis InterContinental participates in Race around the World 2012
When natural and man-made disasters strike, people naturally come to hotels to seek shelter in a storm. This is a key role of hotels in society, and one that is really important to all the communities in which they operate. The IHG Shelter in a Storm Program provides guidance on when and how to react to disasters, ensuring a quick and effective response to crises affecting IHG branded hotels, their employees and the local community.n July last year, around 25,000 colleagues in 47 countries came together to walk, run, swim and cycle (as well as mow and row) 68,588 kilometres in celebration of IHG’s Olympic partnership with the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games. For each kilometre travelled, IHG donated $1 to our IHG‘Shelter in a Storm’ fund. The day was such a success that IHG did it all over again on Wednesday 18 April when there were just 100 days until to the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games on Friday 27 July and with great success. The final donation of money that went this year towards IHG Shelter in a Storm was $300,000. The Semiramis InterContinental teams and employees participated in this great initiative by pledging their commitment to run, walk, swim, cycle, or put some extra steps into their day-to-day activities in support of Race Around the world.
