Cairo Marriott
The magnificent Cairo Marriott Hotel and Omar Khayyam Casino is a harmonious combination of a Royal Palace and complex of twin towers with a connecting garden court rooms. The “Palace Al Gezira” was built by Khedive Ismail as a guest Palace for the Suez Canal inauguration celebrations in 1869. It housed European monarchs, including Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III, and it was to be the venue of the first performance of Verdi’s Opera Aida. Today, the Palace is all that remains of the estate and many of its rooms and furniture have been restored to their original splendor, serving now as reception, function rooms and lounges. The architecture and construction of the Palace reflected the Khedive’s passion for the Neo-classical style popularized in Europe. On the ground floor of the Palace, Salon Royal was originally the main entrance of the Palace and Salon Eugenie the main dining room. Upstairs, Salon Vert would have been the reception area and the smaller function rooms Memphis, Verdi and Thebes were one long room, possibly Empress Eugenie’s quarters where the Khedive created an exact replica of her apartments from the Tuileries of Paris. Located on an island, in the center of the Nile, the Hotel enjoys a distinctive location in the bustling city of Cairo. The modern towers have stunning views of the Nile, the six acres of gardens, the adjoining Gezira Sporting Club and the exclusive residential district of Zamalek.
The location just couldn’t be better - a tranquil setting amid beautiful lush gardens on an island on the Nile. With dramatically modern twin towers flanking a former Royal Palace, the hotel offers a magical blend of traditional elegance and contemporary facilities. From Cairo International Airport – 30 minutes by car or taxi. (45 Kilometers)
