Marriott international launches water conservation program in china
Company joins Conservation International and Government of Pingwu County to protect Asia water tower, source of fresh water to more than 2 billion people. Marriott International (NYSE:MAR) will invest $500,000 (approximately 3.4 million RMB) in seed money over the next two years to support a vital water conservation program that helps protect the largest source of fresh water on the planet, located in the mountains of Southwest China. The program will focus its work in Sichuan Province, the area hit hard by the 2008 earthquake. Concurrently, Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels throughout China have committed to reducing their water and energy use by 25 percent by 2017. The program, called the “Nobility of Nature,” is designed to assist rural communities in Sichuan Province with sustainable businesses, such as mushroom farming and honey production, which will place less stress on the environment. Reducing erosion and sedimentation will also improve water quality downstream in both rural and urban areas.

Construction for Marriott International’s triple Doha expansion scheduled for late 2010
The Renaissance Hotel, Courtyard by Marriott & Marriott Executive Apartments Doha City Center, as part of the Doha City Center Mall development, is predicting a simultaneous opening late this year. Ideally located in West Bay across from Qatar Financial Centre in two modern 48-storey towers, on the doorstep of the new business district of Doha and only 15 minutes from Doha International Airport, the project is yet another testimony to Doha’s future vision. After the completion of the hotels’ modern glass exterior and landscape, full attention is now on the hotel rooms, suites and apartments as well as on restaurants, bars and conference areas. The original design inspiration of the two towers was based on perched hooded falcons - a symbol of superiority, spirit, light, freedom, aspiration, visionary power, wisdom, and guardianship. It pays homage to the long history of falconry in Qatar and the region. The lantern at the top of the building expresses the uniqueness of hooded falcon form, while the curve of the leading edge of the building echoes the curve of the wings, and the mosaic pattern of the glass with the horizontal striations speak to the variation of colour and texture of the feathers, and the wing structure.

The environmentally cautious Sharm El Sheikh Marriott Red Sea Resort recently celebrated Marriott International’s environmental awareness month of April through participating in a lot of environmental activities that includes taking part in a clean up campaign organized by the “Clean Sharm Association” at “Al Rowaysat” desert, where 10 associates from Sharm El Sheikh Marriott Red Sea, voluntarily cleaned up the area for the duration of three continuous hours. The next step in the project would be holding under- water clean up campaigns in dive sites under the supervision of the “Chamber of Diving & Water Sports – CDWS” and much more. Curves for women expands health awareness in the middle east
Curves For Women, the world’s largest fitness chain, today announced the results of two summer promotions that expanded health awareness to 15,000 Middle Easter women in Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Qatar. Two lucky participants received $5,000 each; 50 others received prizes ranging from $2500 each to free one year memberships. The company has more than 10,000 locations in over 50 countries worldwide and has brought fitness to more than 4 million women. 27 locations are open in the Middle East so far with a plan of 75 more in the next two years. Talfazat TV a NeuLion Inc company is a leading Arabic live and on-demand TV provider in North America; they state that a part of their mission is to help connect the Arab Diasporas with home. It’s true that they provide a social service to the community through their TV platform but their commitment to helping Arab communities integrate into Canadian society is what really impressed me. As part of their grassroots efforts they have sponsored this tour organized by the Arab Community Centre of Toronto for newcomers from the Iraqi community. Such a tour is but a small attempt to help integrate newcomers to their new more system driven environment. The tour included a visit to the Royal Ontario Museum, a sightseeing tour of the city of Toronto, lunch and a chance to network with the organizers and company executives from Talfazat TV (NeuLion Inc). To me this tour also offered a window of opportunity that other organizations based in
Canada .

Carnival of Football at Mövenpick resort & Spa El Gouna
Over a two week period, teams from each department were competing against each other with challenging football matches. Dressed in different national football shirts, the team members gave their best to perform just as well as the famous original teams. In the final, the Stewarding (Brazil) team defeated the team from Human Resources (Argentina) - 1:0 in Extra time with the only goal coming a minute from the end. Is this a prediction of what will happen in South Africa? The competition was warmly embraced by all team members and the matches were followed by large crowds including Hotel Guest and families of the team members.
