Did you all lobby together to refuse the 4G and by that affecting negatively the IT sector, the government and the wellbeing of the whole country?
Absolutely not, the telecom operators did not agree to take any collective stand but I believe that the keenness of companies about their customers and the global experience of their groups to provide 4G services in many countries is what driven their decision
Telecom Egypt has acquired the 4G license as opposed to Orange which chose not to, hence did not think of the best interest of its customers while it has been mentioned by the CEO of the group and the former CEO that Customer Experience is Orange priority? What is your comment about this claim?
I reconfirm that the fact that our customer gets a good customer experience is our priority and it is what triggered us to insists that it is a must to avail more frequencies to enable us to offer a good 4G service in a way that doesn’t affect negatively the 2G & 3G services.
Do you think Telecom Egypt will be able to provide the 4G service after acquiring the license?
Technically this should be addressed to Telecom Egypt
Do you have any objection concerning TE & Vodafone since TE owns 45% of Vodafone shares?
It was one of our concerns but the main reason behind our final decision is to avail enough frequencies to enable us to provide a good quality 4G service.
What are your expectations in the coming period?
We are confident that the Egyptian government will take decisions in light of strengthening the existing investment and more particularly the French investments in which Orange Egypt is considered now the largest in Egypt.
Could you tell us about the reasons behind acquiring the 4G frequencies after turning them down several times?
There are no hidden reasons and there were no agreements with any other operator, everyone knows our situation. We turned down the frequencies in the beginning as they were insufficient to provide quality services which is worthy for the Egyptian consumer and Orange, but we did not lose hope and we started negotiating with the government and NTRA. We then signed the 4G and fixed virtual licence for $495 million, with 50% paid in USD.
How will the company provide the foreign currency?
As we announced at our press conference with the presence of MCIT leaders and officials, the mother company will provide us with the needed amount.
When will the 4G services be provided?
We are ready to provide the service which will give higher speeds for internet and data transfer.
You announced that 4G Sims are available at your stores?
Yes, they are available since we announced acquiring the 4G frequencies and we met unpreceded turnout form customers for the new SIM cards.
Does this mean that each Orange customer will have to change their smartphones to use the service?
Not all users, but 4G services require phones that support this technology. We are studying offering 4G compatible phones at all Orange branches for customers who are interested in getting these phones.
How about Orange’s strategy after you have been appointed as the company’s CEO?
Orange believes in the importance of the Egyptian market which is considered the biggest where Orange operates in the Middle East. With more than 35 million subscribers, we aim at providing the best services and increasing our investments in developing infrastructures and networks. We are proud that Orange is the first mobile operator in Egypt and the first to acquire the 4G frequencies and fixed virtual license.
Can you tell us more about UN Framework Convention on Climate Change approving Orange Egypt’s project for Networks’ Energy Efficiency?
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, considered the biggest environmental body worldwide, approved the efficiency and effectiveness of the networks’ energy efficiency project presented by Orange Egypt. The project stresses on Orange Egypt decreasing its carbon emissions by 10 thousand tons annually for 10 years, which is equal to 100 thousand tons during the next 10 years, considered a significant saving value in
energy consumption.
How do you see the competition between operators in Egypt after they acquired the 4G frequencies and introducing a new operator to the market?
If you mean Telecom Egypt, it is not a new game-player; it has been in the market for years and we have a strong collaboration with them. We do our best to prove Orange success to provide the best services for our customers as competition is always a healthy phenomenon which is in the best interest for customers.
How about the new investments the company plans to pump in Egypt?
Orange’s businesses in Egypt form 25% of the Group’s business in MEA. Orange’s keenness on increasing investments in Egypt comes from its belief that it invests in the right place. Orange Group considers Egypt the most important market where it operates, aiming at providing all what’s new in the telecom world to our customers in Egypt.
Did 4G experimenting start in Egypt?
4G is not a new technology being introduced to Orange as it provides it in 30 countries around the world. We are ready to provide the service in Egypt as soon as the frequencies are provided.

My name is Rommel and I love to rock it out in every Zumba class I’m part of, whether as an instructor or participant. The reason is simple: Every class feels like a party! My passion for dance started when I was 8 years old and university was when I was first introduced to ballroom dancing, which incidentally led to the beginning of my Latin dancing - while I was waiting for my ballroom class to commence, I saw Latin dance instructors rehearsing for their upcoming class. It was mesmerizing and exciting, breathtaking and sexy! After asking around I soon learned that it was a Salsa dance they had done and since then, I haven’t looked back. At present, I have continued my training in other dance genres such as Hip Hop, Bollywood, Jazz, Ballet, Bellydance, and Contemporary; all the while enhancing my knowledge and expertise in Salsa, Merengue, Cha Cha, and Bachata (my current fave in Latin dance). My future training aspirations... Zouk, West Coast Swing, and the ever-so passionate Tango! And what about Zumba, you may ask? Well, the sky’s the limit! So come join me and you’ll see what I mean. You don’t even have to know how to dance. Just move your body and follow my lead. The more energy you bring to the class, the more I will give back to you. It’s that easy!
