Egypt’s bright young TV Presenter Mariam Amin is sashaying her way to stardom and with countless audiences tuned in to watch her shows, she proves she has the potential to be around for many years to come. DG sits down with Mariam, the stricking presenter with loads of persona and listens while she unveils a determined and fiercely intelligent woman with a mind all of her own...
Please introduce yourself to our readers? I am Mariam Amin, studied at Sacre Coeur School then I graduated from faculty of foreign trade, business administration department. I have an elder sister who lives in USA and a younger brother who works at AL Ahram Beverage. And then coincidence played its role in my life and I started working at the Egyptian Television at the Nile Specialized Channels and I was happy as I always dreamt about being an actress or director but as you know my family was totally against that and they only accepted my work as a TV presenter and then I thought that a part of my dream will become true and hopefully I will achieve all of it later. I always loved art and creation. Thanks to God I found myself from the very first moment in front of the camera and the comments were just great from everyone, I worked for two years at the Nile Variety Channel but at that time I felt I require a bigger opportunity to reach my goals. I received a lot of offers to act but refused because of my family and then I moved to the Egyptian Satell te Channel with the great Sanaa Mansour and from there I moved to Dubai Channel and worked there till 2012, at Dubai Channel I had very good exposure and huge production. I always dreamt of high viewership rates and to be highly seen by the Egyptians. But unfortunately I was more famous at the Gulf area more than here in Egypt.
Where is Mariam Amin from our Satellite channels? As I told you before I always wanted to be seen by the Egyptians but it is a matter of luck and I always tried to choose the best from the offers I got. Since the revolution all the offers I got were for political talk shows and as you know I love more to be in variety and artistic shows although I used to present a political episode at “Sabah El Kheir Ya Masr” program from 2007 till 2011. But I find myself more in social, artistic, and variety shows and thanks to God I built myself a good name and reputation in these kinds of programs. Also thanks to God that El Hayat Channel bought my program “Le3bet El Nogom” and “some nice episodes from “Taratata” so that made me present and seen by the Egyptian viewers. Nowadays I am studying many offers from Egyptian Satellite Channels to choose from, and hopefully I’ll find a good program that I am convinced with and want to present as I will never work in anything I don’t want even for the sake of money.
Tell us about your new experience on Radio? This is my first experience on Radio but my seventh offer throughout the past six years. Thanks to God I got this offer and it came in my way just like that without any prior arrangements. God led me to it and I am praying night and day to succeed in this experience, as Radio is very difficult and you should reach the people through your voice and feelings only so it is not easy. I am still discovering this experience and what made me optimistic is that my friends told me that my voice is nice and they liked it a lot. I will also work on developing the program and start receiving guests but after I prove myself and discover all the keys of the radio.
How do you see Egypt’s future and are you optimistic about it? Yes, I am optimistic and was totally shocked from the great Egyptians at 30th June. The people proved that they are so smart and know when to take down the streets to get back their beloved Egypt. We showed the whole world who we truly are and no one can beat the pharaohs. There will be some obstacles and ramps but we will conquer all and reach the end of the tunnel. At the end Egypt will win. We must believe in that and work for it.
How do you find the Talk Shows nowadays and their credibility? Well , I can’t evaluate my friends especially that I am one of them but what I can say is that people are filtering and only the good will stay just like everything else nowadays. Only the trustworthy, serious, and credible shows will be seen but anything else will disappear from the screen. It is all a matter of time.
After this time as a presenter, do you consider acting? It has always been my dream but as I told you before my family at the beginning was totally against it but after these years and finding out that I am still the same and living the same lifestyle and that the fame didn’t change me, they started to change their mind. But the problem now lies in me as I am afraid to lose the hard work and effort I exerted throughout those 12 years by choosing a bad role or if the audience don’t like me, I am terrified so I didn’t make up my mind yet about acting and always delaying this step. I ask God to send me a good role with a professional director who can get the best out of me.
Away from work, how do you spend your day? I am a very normal person, leading a very normal life. I go the gym like four or five days a week and I became so keen to do exercise on regular basis and to keep the sport as part of my lifestyle in order to keep my shape. My friends are the same since my childhood, we are so attached and we are always together. I like to travel a lot. At the end of the interview I would like to thank you and congratulate Dear Guest festival for its 10th anniversary and for the hard work you are all exerting to come up with such a huge and credible event, so keep it up guys...
