Tala Samman

Tala Samman is a fashion student, currently enrolled in her second year at the London College of Fashion. Originally Syrian and growing up in Dubai, this 19 year old has lived in her fair share of glamorous locations. And yet despite this she is incredibly down to earth, uncharacteristically humble (for a blogger) when discussing her work. She describes her own fashion influences as being “my mother, who is a true fashion lover”, with her style being eclectic and influenced by the allure of the 1970s hippie glamour. We interviewed Tala following her visits to the London and Paris Fashion Weeks, to catch up on who’s hot, who’s not and who’s going to make it. There were some incredible designers both new and classic with her favourite Phoebe Philo for Celine and Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, she also praised Hakaan, who showed at London Fashion week for the first time last season and showed at Paris Fashion week this season, loving the collection and describing him as “such a talented designer!”
On what trends she could see emerging from the dark and androgynous styles of the fall 2010 collections, “White has got to be the key trend for SS11 - print and bright colours were great trends too”.
Finally, we couldn’t resist asking for some opinions, who does she think is taking a fierce to a whole other level right now? “January Jones and Olivia Palermo always look fab!”

You attended both London and Paris Fashion Week, who did you see as the most prominent designers throughout those two weeks?
Some great talented designers but these collections topped them all off: Peter Copping for Nina Ricci, Phoebe Philo for Celine and Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel.

Did you notice any break out stars of the Fashion Weeks?
Anyone who you can see becoming a very important fixture in the fashion world? Hakaan, who showed at London Fashion week for the first time last season and showed at Paris Fashion week this season. Such a talented designer!

Obviously Fall 2010/2011 has been incredible for trends, with leather, tailoring and fur all set to make a statement in the cold October months, what would you say were the key trends for the new season?
White has got to be the key trend for SS11 - print and bright colours were great trends too!

Your Fashion Blog, myfashdiary.blogspot.com is incredible, what inspired you to begin writing about Fashion?
Thank you! I have loved fashion ever since I was little and grew up among fashion lovers too... I am also a fashion student at the London College of Fashion. I have had a great love for fashion blogs for some time and thought it would be interesting starting one and treating it as my online fashion Diary.

What do you love most about fashion?
I love how its ever-changing! I am a person that gets bored doing the same things over and over again, and fashion is anything but that. its an exciting fast-paced form of art.

Who or what would you say is your biggest influence in fashion(family, friends, celebrities)? What trends (classic or modern) really make you tick, and who do you think has worn them the best?
My mother, who is a true fashion lover is a great influence. I am greatly influenced by the 70’s era too! I am quite eclectic with style, so I tend to appreciate different styles.

Who are your most fashionable celebrities at the moment?
January Jones and Olivia Palermo always look fab!
