On the big screen she is everyone’s ideal woman. But in real life, Ghada
Adel doesn’t quite see it that way. She is a natural emblem of beauty, a
talented, intuitive actress and a loving, compassionate mother. I got a chance
to uncover the most unblemished, white hearted person on earth; she really
deserves to be Best Actress for 2008. Ghada Adel is an icon for all girls to
emulate. It was my first time to see her but I felt I knew her for quite a long
time. Her recent choices and performance have burdened her with a huge
responsibility and placed her alongside Egypt’s most shining, endowed and
responsible actresses. Thus she really deserves to be identified, Best Actress
of 2008. Her effort in developing her talent has been very apparent lately. We
had a little yak about everything.
First of all, congratulations for winning best actress in DG
festival annual vote;
Thank you so much, I am so happy about that, I have been dreaming to win
this prize and I think it came in the right time.
Ghada Adel is sparkling nowadays more than any other time, why is
that?
I believe concentration and making the right choice is the secret. After
doing successful roles as in "Malaky Iskenderia", and "Fe Shakt Misr El Gedida",
my fans and critics are anticipating more. I am determined to try my best to
never disappoint them and always be up to their expectations. When you are on
the right path, you must aim to never loose focus. So I concentrate a lot in my
choices and then performance. To diverse my roles and play all kinds of
characters, not to be framed in the sweetie beautiful girl role.
Don't you think that now is the right time to have films
specifically written for you as we see now Yasmin Abdel Aziz in her latest
movie?
To tell you the truth, all entertainers dream of having films written
specifically for them, but here in Egypt this is only happening for heroes not
heroines. I'm not bothered by the quantity, I care about the quality. For
instance, I can do small roles as long as they are significant and good
ones.
You are married to producer and
director Magdy El Hawary as we all know, don't you think that you have more of a
chance to have films of your own than others?
Well it is not about
producing and money, it is about finding a good script and story and then all
comes. For example "Fe Shakt Misr El Gedida" movie, the hero here was the story
and the script - not one person. Of course Magdy helped me a lot, but I also
worked with many others and most of my latest accomplishments are not with
Magdy.
Just four
series in T.V, why is that?
This is true I
started in "Wageh El Qamar" with the great Faten Hamama, it was an opportunity
every one dreams of. In this experience I tried to store in my mind all the
details and lessons I acquired from this great actress. It was something like
going to a university or school. And then "Mabrouk Galak Qalaq" with Hany Ramzy.
It was a very good series where the young and old loved it, equally. "El
Masrawaya" was my third work in T.V and of course it was a very good opportunity
to work with Ismail Abdel Hafez and Osama Anwar Okasha. And last but not least
"Qaleb Mayet". T.V enters our homes so it is very important to be selective and
respect the audiences. Also I don't like to repeat myself; I have a new script
for a beautiful series where my role is a little bit similar to Nesma in "Qaleb
Mayet" that is why I can't do it. I want to act all kinds of characters; this is
my dream in T.V and Cinema.
Do you consult others in the pick of movies or series you act in, or is it your
decision alone?Well Magdy is the only one I consult; after I read
the script I give it to Magdy and he advises me with his opinion. Of course if
the character doesn't touch me deeply, I don't play it.
Any movie is a joint effort and as I told you initially the script is the source of success intended
for any work.
What do you
think of the new trend of what they call 'Youth Cinema', where all the actors
and actresses in the movie are new faces as in "Awaet Faragh" and other new
movies?
I'm fond of it and totally support it. The cinema industry
is a rolling ongoing cycle and the appearance of new faces makes it continue
forever. I don't like the idea of the one and only hero. Any movie is a joint
effort and as I told you initially the script is the source of success intended
for any work.
What about festivals and are you keen to
attend?
As a matter of fact I wasn't, this year was my first
year to attend The Cairo International Film Festival.
I was very shy to walk on the red carpet. I felt that
I wasn't up to it, but lately after what I achieved I
have more self confidence to attend and participate
in big festivals, especially our festival. I believe that
any festival will never sparkle or succeed without
its stars.
What about awards and prizes?
Previously I never cared about it, but after I
experienced it, I would like to have an award daily.
It is very essential for the actor to be appreciated,
it gives us a boost. Every time you receive an
award you try more to enhance your talent and
capabilities.
"Fe Shaket Misr El Gedida" let's talk about it…
I was shooting 'Galateny Mogramen' movie at the
time and also liked this movie a lot.
Great director Mohamed Khan sent me a message
telling me" if you want to act, call me". I was
shocked and surprised. I called him and he gave me
the script of the movie. Magdy read it first and told
me you have to do this movie, it is an exceptional
piece of art. Of course I was very anxious and
confused. I must admit, I didn't prepare for the role;
I just used my intuition to act. Mohamed Khan told
me later "just be as you are now, always using your
sentiment and instinct". And this is what I am truly
doing, to be natural allowing each character capture
me. I consider it a great movie - without a doubt an
important milestone in my career.
Where do you see yourself in two years?
Just acting, I love what I am doing and would love
to continue doing so until my last breath.
Kids, home, and of course Magdy, what about
them and how do you manage your time; I believe
it is very difficult?
They are the most important thing in my whole life.
Motherhood experience taught me a lot of things
that are hard to explain. What's more, I improved
as an actress. All the feelings of anxiety, caution
and love you go through with your kids give you
more experience in life. I would never give up this
happiness for anything. My mother helped me a lot
in raising my children and that's how I was able to
have time to act.
Five kids and still maintain a slim figure, how is
that?
This is my nature; I am a very active person, moving
all the time. And of course the effort I do with my
kids, it is a natural sport.
What is new for Ghada Adel?
In T.V I am reading some scripts but haven't t decide
yet. As for the cinema I'll start shooting a new movie
called "El Watar" with Magdy.
Thank you so much, it was really a nice
interview.
Thank you; it was my pleasure and Happy New Year
to you and all DG readers.
